If they're doing a road trip, I would guess something with more elbow room and space for gear + clothes. Also something good in snow. I'd get an SVT focus with that kind of cash. NA domestic hot hatch. Good year round and infinitely useful while being fun to drive and has a ready supply of replacement parts.

Too old. Also overpriced for what it is. They're rare, usually beaten to within an inch of their life, then sold for a premium if they haven't been wrapped around a tree. If he was buying a car to modify, it could work. But I don't think that's the goal with this car.
